CleanTechnica has confirmed the incredible growth in ‘green’ buildings. The percentage of hotel owners reporting more than half their facilities as green rose from 28% in 2011 to 48% in 2013, expected to reach 62% by 2015.
A McGraw Hill construction survey has also provided some answers to the big question: are green hotels more valuable? 71% of hotel owners reported an increase in asset value! 85% reported an increase in building ROI and 67% a decrease in energy use!
Many of you don’t have the luxury of operating in a new building though. So, what can you do? The first step is to measure what you want to manage (it’s a cliche but it’s true): calculate your carbon emissions, monitor your energy usage, identify opportunities for improvements, and engage with stakeholders (owners, staff, guests).
